About Amory Housing Authority

The Amory Housing Authority is located in Amory, Mississippi and has 112 public housing apartments. Our apartments are located in three areas of the City, Brasfield Apartments, located at 5th Avenue South, Brasfield Street, 10th Street South and Norwood Street. W. F. Pope Apartments are at 110th, 111th, and J Avenue. Joe Duke Apartments are at 106th Street, Duke Court and Powell Street.

The Amory Housing Authority is authorized under the United States Housing Act of 1937, as amended. It authorizes the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide technical and financial assistance to public housing agencies in the provision of decent, safe, and sanitary housing dwelling units at affordable rents to lower-income families. The public housing program is administered at the local level by housing authorities which are non-federal public agencies authorized by state legislation.

The Amory Housing Authority receives financial assistance from the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). HUD provides subsidies in the way of annual operating budgets, and Capital Fund Improvement Grants.

The Amory Housing Authorities acts as the, owner, and manager of its public housing developments. The authority has the responsibility to manage its properties subject to applicable laws and contractual relationships with HUD and the local governing body. The housing authority performs all of the functions of a private landlord, including leasing apartments, collecting rents, maintaining the properties, and all of the other responsibilities related thereto.
